To get straight to the point: mainstream Christianity today has adopted a disturbingly "athletic" or "jock-like" culture. From Jehovah’s Witnesses to various charismatic denominations, there is a rampant, cult-like atmosphere reminiscent of MLM seminars or hype-fueled rallies. People shout "Jesus, Hallelujah!" while performing bizarre dances or rolling on the floor, claiming to "soak in the presence of God." Honestly, it looks no different from the worship of the Golden Calf.
To be "like a child" is not to be a fool.
Pastors encourage this ridiculous behavior, claiming it’s what it means to be a "child before God," often citing how King David danced. But let’s be clear: David was a brilliant strategist and a warrior who led from the front. The Bible records him dancing only once; it wasn't his daily routine. In 1 Samuel 21, David feigned madness to survive—he was acting like a fool, which proves he wasn't one.
When Christ praised children, the context was their purity: unlike the adult disciples, they were sincere, didn't constantly compare themselves to others, and could easily admit their mistakes. Being like a child isn't about acting "stupid"; it’s about humility and honesty.
Matthew 10:16: "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves."
1 Corinthians 14:20: "Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults."
Unlike King David—who endured constant warfare, survived assassination attempts by King Saul, and faced the betrayal of his sons while remaining focused—most people in these Christian circles lack real life experience. These "spiritual infants," lacking adult reasoning and empathy, babble in tongues like "Jesus, hondereremandere..." and roll around on the floor. To any sane person, this behavior is disturbing and repulsive.
If you're curious, search for "Holy Laughter" or "Kundalini Church." It might look funny at first, but if you embrace this as Christianity, it’s nothing more than cultish mass hypnosis. You’ll go to a church and literally get pushed to the ground by someone grabbing your head.
Furthermore, those who embrace this irreverent attitude obsess over "The Rapture," judging anyone who doesn't subscribe to dogmas established at the Council of Nicaea as hell-bound. This "winner-takes-all" mentality is exactly what I mean by "athletic culture."
The "Jock" Christian Mentality
You can see this same energy in YouTube videos of Japanese "izakaya" pep rallies: "I'm so grateful for today! Let's hype it up! We're number one!" It’s mindless self-hypnosis. Modern Christianity is infected by this capitalistic, competitive mindset where people brag about being the "chosen ones" whose names are in the Book of Life.
"Thank you Jesus, we're #1 and getting raptured before the tribulation!" or "Thank you Jehovah for the Organization; I’ll give my life as a pioneer! Hallelujah, we’re the best!" It’s no wonder rational people turn down their invitations.
True salvation occurs at the end of the Great Tribulation. The goal is to gather the elite 144,000 and the 24 elders—the "sons of the Kingdom"—not to mindlessly collect a "Great Crowd" for a specific organization or to hide behind Nicene Trinitarianism hoping for an early escape.
While this circus might allow the Gospel to spread globally, those who swallow these teachings whole become problematic. They become "spiritual tares"—shallow, single-minded, and immature. Anyone with a grain of common sense will eventually tire of the blind obedience of Jehovah’s Witnesses or the nonsensical "jock" energy of mainstream churches and seek to distance themselves.
Both the Watchtower and modern Christendom are "athletic" cults. The Bible is an incredibly sophisticated book. The first-century apostles recorded prophecies and genealogies with absolute precision without the aid of computers. That level of intellectual depth is nowhere to be found in today’s churches.
Instead, we get "Jesus Hallelujah, we’re #1 for the Rapture!" We shouldn't be competing over who is the greatest; we should be like children—admitting when our interpretations are wrong and humbly serving others. Those screaming and shaking on the floor have neither the "shrewdness of a snake" nor the "purity of a dove." Their behavior reveals a lack of intellectual curiosity, a lack of integrity, and a cold indifference to truth.
If you’re exhausted by this "athletic" brand of Christianity, just leave. These religions act like a drug—they shut down your frontal lobe until your very eyes lose their focus.
